Welcome

I have just started this as I begin to prepare for my new adventure to Tanzania. My official take off date is still not known, but it should be sometime near the end of July. I finished up work as a paraprofessional at Cornelia Elementary School in Edina on Friday the 8th. What a great job. Wonderful staff and great kids to work with! I was given a great opportunity to observe so many different teachers in their classroom and pick up on lots of different techniques that I'm sure will come in helpful when I begin teaching in Tanzania.

I am in the process of working with some of the staff at the school to create a partnership between Cornelia and some of the schools in Tanzania. Hopefully we can spark enough interest to motivate the kids to want to learn about the different cultures as well. Right now we are just in the begining phases of planning a possible pen pal relationship and maybe extending that to video postcards or skype with a webcam. The technology at the school in Tanzania is still very limited. This would provide an amazing opportunity for students to have a more involved learning experience in the cultural differences between African and American lifestyles. I plan to add plenty of pictures to the blog, I believe that visuals really help to convey the strong differences, and hope to add a new post once a week.

Please leave comments if you like. Have a great start to the summer!!
